VOUCHER PROGRAM

Similar to a Pet Taxi but more!

This program supports spay/neutering outside a clinic setting.  Many communities around Lake Chapala have no veterinary services and many residents do not have transportation or the funds to get their pets spayed or neutered.  Volunteers organize anywhere from 12 – 30 cats and/or dogs to be transported in the early morning to appointments with veterinarians located from Jocotepec to Chapala and their pets returned at the end of the day.

EDUCATION

Once the pets are returned to the village plaza, this is where the magic begins. The families usually all come together to pick up their pets. Top of the list is to provide in-depth instruction for caring for their pets post surgury. Here we have an opportunity to educate the kids and their parents on propert home care for their cats and dogs. Any questions they may have or followup required..we do our best to ensure their needs are met. If time permits, we also put a new collar and identification tag on the dogs and the kids get to pick some toys for their cats. Smiles all around!  Although volunteers that speak Spanish are required, there are still volunteers roles in the Voucher Program that do not require Spanish.
